Chevron and Swoon Quilting

 

These cool Chevrons belong to Barb.  Barb talked about wanting the chevrons to continue out into the borders and then the rest was up to me.

 

 



 

This quilt is huge.  The outer borders alone are 14" wide.

 

 

These are all the threads I used along the way. 

 

 The pictures have a blue tinge to  them from the afternoon light.

 I tried to edit this one to show the quilting a little better, but I don't think I should play around with them again....

 this is the original.  The top and bottom borders have a row of chevrons created with quilting, the same as the coloured chevrons and then straight lines out to the edge.

 The colours used are just lovely.  The fabric is from a Moda range called Bluebird Park by Kate & Birdie Paper Co.

  and curls in the backgrounds. The same quilting that is in the chevrons and background are extended out into the side borders. The chevrons are made with Half Square Triangles. Simple but effective.

There was a lot of marking done before I could even start the quilting, but so worth it.

 The grey is looking mauve in this picture.  The colours are just lovely and fresh against the white background.

 I loved this quilt and so did Barb.  She is very happy with how it has turned out.  So happy that Barb called me several hours after picking it up to let me know that the quilt was just perfect on the bed at home.

The past week I also got to quilt a Swoon quilt for Wendy.  I love this quilt, along with many many other quilters in the world.

It was very hard to hand these two quilts back to their owners, sometimes my job is not fun.

 

And I have been doing some hand piecing at night, trying to get some more quilts finished to quilt top stage.  I still have more pieces to put together, but it does go together quickly, this part anyway.

 

 

 

 

At the End of the Day

I got most of what I wanted or was on my Wish List for the day done.  I knew not all of it would be where I had hoped because there will always be other things that come along and slow you down.

So here is where I started just to recap

The yellow quilt was so very close to together at the start of the day.  Now here it is all together.  This is a Christmas gift, so far I am on track to have it done by then. 

 

I just love it.  The pattern is called Star Blossoms by Kim Brackett from her book called Scrap Basket Beauties by Martingale books.  The orginal has 12 blocks mine is 16 blocks and measures 65 x65.  It was super easy and quick to make.  Next is to quilt it.

I did get the bundles of fabric cut, not as far as I had hoped but I was getting tired at the end of the day and thought it was better not to cut them, just in case I stuff it up.  These are for Metro Hoops quilt by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I am teaching this on August 16th at The Patchwork Angel. There is already a sample in the shop, this one will be a little different. It will also be bigger than the pattern size also.

And I got the borders pieced for the Fat Quarter Shop 2013 Mystery Quilt. Many Flying Geese units pieced and then sewn into the border strips.  Very happy with them, the border strips are the length I need to fit my quilt top.

So there you go.  I had tried to load these pictures last week but something wouldn't work right to make it happen.  Most probably it was user error.  Anyway here they are for you to enjoy

Gale came to class with a plan to create a background then appilque images on top.  I have seen it finished already and it looks great.  I love that students take what they learn and go another step forward.

Spring Picnic class

Hi everyone

 

Last Saturday I taught my Spring Picnic quilt to a lovely group of ladies at The Patchwork Angel.  Here is my quilt, still needing to be quilted and ironed, but we wont worry about that right now.  This quilt comes together using either pre cut jelly rolls or 2 1/2" strips from yardage.

 

 

 

In this class the girls could cut their pieces with either the Hex n More ruler or

 

the traditional 60 degree triangle ruler, and still have the same results.

Here are some of the girls work, somehow I missed  two, very sorry Gail and Jules.  I might be able to get a pic from Jules shortly.

Jenny is using all shades of blue from aqua to almost navy, I was in love with some of her fabrics. Jenny is going to sash the braids with this dark aqua,

Sally is using jelly rolls and her braids will be sewn with the fabric in an organised pattern so each braid will be the same, lovely.  Sally was in my Wonky Stars class last year, she has that one just about finished and I hope to see it soon.

 

Robyn's Picnic quilt will be in shades of pink, fuchsia and purples, this selection is from a Bali Pop.  I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished, might have something to do with the fact that I love pink.  Robyn's sashing is an eggplant purple Moda solid, stunning

 Beth's fabrics are bright and fun and sweet, this will be so cute.

These are made by Denise and they are a wonderful collection of blues, browns yellow and greens with a cream sashing, bright and fun with a great mix of prints and solids.

 
This is Deb, say hi to Deb everyone.  Deb had a wonderful mix of colours and prints also.

 

here is all the girls at the end of class showing there great work.  All the ladies were very quick at picking up the cutting and piecing and so we had a good time chatting and sewing, the best way to spend a Saturday morning.  Thank you all for coming.

 

I so look forward to seeing this quilts come together and seeing the ladies again in another class with me.

 

Finishes 2nd Febuary

Hi All

So I again only have a few Finishes to show this week....

I finished cutting out pieces for my next class sample. I wanted to mix up the fabrics, so I got the family to pick out the ones they liked and I had to use them.  Here are the funny results

The boys picked mostly dark solids, the girls light almost solids. These are all cut ready to piece, hoping I have cut enough for what I need.

I also finished the Requirements list for my Spring Picnic class in 2 weeks.  Just found out today that the class is full. Happy with that.

I got this block pieced, it is 7.5" finished and it had a total of 51 yes 51 pieces.  This is for Sampler Block Quilt by Lori Smith, only lost one or two points..

 

I thinks this is all the Finishes for the week, I am off to put hubby and kids to bed ....Revenge starts again tonight....
